A LISTING OF CONFLICT MANAGEMENT WEBSITES

Ingrid Buch-Wagler, Ph.D.
Concentration Director,
Department of Conflict Management,
Trinity College and Theological Seminary
Revised and Updated August 2006

Academy of Management: Conflict Management Division. <http://division.aomonline.org/cm/> The site has links to online journals and many other conflict management resources.

ADR Resources. <http://adrr.com/> This site is maintained by mediator Stephen R. March. It contains numerous full text essays on various topics of conflict management and mediation. (Note Mr. Marsh has written some essays which reference church conflict but it should be noted that he is a Mormon.)

Alban Institute <alban.org> The institute specializes in church conflict management monographs and related subjects. The site has articles and book reviews, not all of which are Alban publications. They also have an excellent e-magazine called “Congregations”.

Alternative Dispute Resolution Resources. <adrr.com> This is attorney and mediator Stephen Marsh’s site. It contains many of his own articles, newsletters, and selected items by numerous other authors.

Association for Conflict Resolution. <acresolution.org> This is a content-rich site with articles and bibliography on a wide range of conflict management topics.

Barna Research Group. <www.barna.org> Various research bulletins relevant to church conflict management.

Campaign for Forgiveness Research. <forgiving.org> This site contains a listing of current research being conducted on various aspects of forgiveness.

Campus Mediation Resources at Wayne State University. <campus-adr.org> The focus of this very well-designed site is mediation for universities and colleges but much is more widely applicable.

Center for Congregational Health. <healthychurch.org> This organization provides consulting and training to churches on managing conflict and bringing about growth and change in congregations. It also links churches with intentional interims. The website has a number of excellent articles on church conflict.

Conflict Research Consortium. <colorado.edu/conflict> This is from the University of Colorado at Boulder. See especially the “Core Literature Abstracts,” a large annotated bibliography of “core” books related to conflict resolution.

Conflict Resolution Information Source. <CRinfo.org> This site is maintained by the Conflict Research Consortium. It is a gateway to thousands of conflict management websites, articles, and perspectives. Recommended as a “first stop”.

Conflict Transformation Program at Eastern Mennonite University. <emu.edu/ctp> Full text articles available, as well as a newsletter and a periodic journal. As of late 2005, the program name is changed to “Justice and Peacebuilding” but the focus is the same.

ConflictNet. <conflictnet.org>
Maintained by a network of individuals promoting conflict resolution, this site provides current information in the field, conferences and training, and facilitated topical discussions.

Cornell University Institute on Conflict Resolution. <http://www.ilr.cornell.edu/icr/> The strength of this site is its excellent links to numerous websites on conflict resolution.

European Platform for Conflict Prevention and Transformation. <euconflict.org> This site includes surveys of current conflicts and peace building efforts with an emphasis on international conflict.

Google Directory. <directory.google.com> Google describes this as “the web organized by topics into categories.” At first glance this might seem to be the motherlode of good sources, but it does not deliver on quite such grand expectations. For example go to <google.com/Top/Society?Issues/Peace>. Type in the words “church conflict” and you get only about 25 entries. The site mainly directs you to international peace initiatives. You might want to try other Google Directory category searches in the “society” section but also try the “business” section where you can, for example, find information on “leadership” and “change management”. It is worth checking out even though it does not over deliver.

Hartford Institute for Religious Research. <hirr.hartsem.edu> Premier site for obtaining empirical data on congregational life in America, including numerous articles related to conflict management.

Harvard Program on Negotiation. <pon.org> In addition to numerous links, the site has a “Clearinghouse” bookstore where one can purchase conflict management role-plays and videos for training purposes, as well as many books.

Inspire: Indiana’s Online Research Library. <tel.trinitysem.edu:2057/subject.htm> This site is, as its title suggests, not conflict management specific, but a library of research databases where you can look for conflict management articles. To access Inspire, go to the site and log in with your Trinity student ID number.

Institute for Conflict Analysis and Resolution at George Mason University. <gmu.edu> Together with articles and links, the site features a comprehensive listing of conflict management and related journals; also includes synopses of the Brown Bag Lecture Series.

International Association for Conflict Management. <iacm-conflict.org> The association encourages “scholars and practitioners to develop and disseminate theory, research, and experience that is useful for understanding and improving conflict management in family, organizational, societal, and international settings.” The site contains excellent resources and links.

International Negotiation: A Journal of Theory and Practice. <interneg.org> This site specializes in international mediation with numerous articles and case studies in government and non-government contexts.

John Templeton Foundation. <templeton.org> This organization funds research on the interface between science and religion. As such it has been involved in numerous studies on forgiveness. See its annotated bibliography of forgiveness research projects.

Leadership Journal. <christianitytoday.com/leaders> Many back issues with full text-articles related to church conflict are available; as is a free weekly newsletter on church leadership issues. Note in particular Winter 1993 and Fall 2004 which are largely concerned with church conflict; also see January 2005 which emphasizes implementing positive change in the church.

Mediate.com. <mediate.com> The site is a forum for mediators with articles (some on church conflict) and book reviews. Training videos/DVDs on conflict management and mediation can be purchased at this site as well.

Mediation Training Institute. <Mediationworks.com> This is mediator Daniel Dana’s website. It includes a free monthly newsletter on managing conflict in the workplace.

Network of Communities for Peacemaking and Conflict resolution. <apeacemaker.net> Their “PeaceWeb” library contains newsletters, bibliographies, and articles. The site also has a “religious practitioners roundtable” forum.

Ohio State Journal on Conflict Resolution. The journal is by subscription but there are free downloads from 2003 and forward. The Mayhew-Hite Report on Dispute Resolution and the Courts at also at this site.

Peace and Conflict Studies. <gmu.edu/academic/pcs> The online publication of this journal is published by The Network of Peace and Conflict Studies at Nova Southeastern University. Full text articles from 1994 to the present are available.

Peacemaker Ministries. <peacemaker.net> This is lawyer Ken Sande’s organization. It trains churches and individuals in mediation and provides consultation services for churches in conflict. The site contains articles specific to church conflict, and references books, training materials, and videos available for purchase.

Peacemakers Trust. <peacemakers.ca> The site of this Canadian organization contains “Conflict Transformation and Peacebuilding” which is a large selected bibliography broken down into 35 aspects of conflict management.

Restorative Justice Online from PFI Centre for Justice and Reconciliation. <restorativejustice.org> Search tools, articles, summaries, and web links for the “restorative justice” movement can be found at this site.

Sanda Kaufman’s Conflict Web Resources. <urban.csuohio.edu> This is an extensive list of web-based materials on conflict management compiled by Dr. Sanda Kaufman (an Ohio university professor).

Online Journal of Peace and Conflict Resolution. <trinstitute.org/ojpcr> There is free subscription to this “online only” journal with complete back issues.

The Peace Plan. <resolvechurchconflict.com> This is the site of Ken Newberger, a doctoral candidate in conflict management at Nova University. His plan calls for ombudsman-type people to be utilized throughout a church’s structure with the goal of decreasing the likelihood of severe conflict.

Transitional Ministries. <transitionalministries.com> This is a site specializing in the role of a conflict manager who comes into a church as interim pastor especially after the church has gone through serious conflict.
